noun chain 為名詞的鎖鏈，即為多個名詞組成的詞彙。我們常習慣將最重要的名詞放在最後，而在之前堆疊其他名詞或形容詞 (筆者案：這是中文的語法，如果照字面翻譯，就會造成名詞鍊)。

解決方案

1. 避免noun chains 最簡單的方法即為：在科技論文寫作的過程中，請勿使用所有格(‘s)。
2. 為了避免撰寫出冗長難解的 noun/adjective chains (名詞鍊/形容詞鍊)，只把最重要的main idea 放在最前頭。

常見的短名詞鍊

• education research (research into education)
• student performance ( the performance of students)
• teacher effectiveness (the effectiveness of teachers)

較長的名詞鍊

• an effectiveness assessment method (a method of assessing effectiveness)
• muscular oxygen consumption (the consumption of oxygen by muscles)
• modulation and demodulation complexity (the complexity of modulation and demodulation)
• no RNA-Protein complex formation (the formation of no RNA-Protein complex)

「失控」的超長名詞鍊

• Previous educational institution performance assessment studies
  改寫後：previous studies on the assessment of performance in educational institutions
